I’m An Instagram Model

Is Instagram modelling the new occupation? Does it differ from runway models? Are you qualified enough to be titled as an Instagram model?

The answer is maybe, maybe and maybe.

Instagram has been used so much for various marketing purposes, such as paid promotions and endorsements to Instagram models / influencers due to its 1 billion monthly active Instagram users. Instagram is the most engaged network after Facebook.

Many people who uses Instagram with followers ranging from 1K to 1M, can get paid for endorsements. It’s coming back isn’t it, to the days of youtube, when people were so hyped about people mentioning their occupation as a “You-tuber” and people would wonder, “What? That’s not a real job”. Until now, I think it is still a controversial topic.

Digital marketing expansion and development has definitely bring opportunities for many creative people.

Let’s differentiate between runway models and Instagram models, I think runway models are categorised as a sample size. Therefore, their body measurements should be strictly specified. For example, to be considered as runway model, your height should be a minimum of 183cm and as a plus size model, you are a size 12 and up. People who are in between these requirements more likely have no chance of being a model. On the other hand, Instagram modelling is based on how creative and attractive your posts are. Your account, your rule.

Personally, I’m not against people whose day-job/ “full-time” job is as an Instagram model or you-tuber. As long as the money you earn is enough for you to live. You can get a job as an accountant who work 9 to 5 like a robot, or run errands perfecting one Instagram post. I think it all depends on your hard work and dedication. What do you guys think? πŸ˜ƒ

*P.S. I’m not an Instagram model.

    1. Yes, what a good topic to bring up! I feel it has impact on not only the influencers, but also audiences and small businesses.

Big influencers may feel disturbed by this change, because then their achievement cannot be compared with others.

Instagram had mentioned that this change was concerning the mental health of users (audiences)

Small businesses now can post without worrying the number of likes. People will judge based on post rather than number of likes. This reduces the stigma to follow those small business accounts.

  2. It’s nice to see this kind of controversial topic being touched on with an unbiased POV. I also think that the new age of Instagram modelling (influencers) is new way to promote oneself via the digital marketing strategy.

  3. I think with the way that technology and social media has changed job industry over the past few years has really helped open up new opportunities for people that previously just wasn’t possible. I think if the potential is there, then making a living off being an Ig Model or influencer is a super interesting job and something that may not make sense as such to older generations, but provides a lot of flexibility for work hours and location that something like a 9-5 accounting job just may not be able to provide! Definitely depends on personal preferences!
